Everyone who is not us is the enemy and should be branded as infidel. This seems to be the prevailing ideology of the extreme Takfiri terrorists known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). Their aim is said to be the establishment of an Islamic Caliphate. Shias, Christians, Sunnis, Yazidies, and whomsoever who dares to question them or raise his voice of dissent are persecuted under their highly distorted version of Islamic Sharia. Gruesome beheadings, crucifixions and mass executions are openly carried out under their iconic black flag which is more like a modern day equivalent of a Jolly Roger. At times, it seems like their victims are whoever who is unlucky enough to be in their path during their killing sprees. And yet they know how to manipulate social media and have succeeded in brainwashing some to join them in their “fight for justice”.

TIME CODE: 00:00:00 _ 00:02:00

Soldier:

By the power of God, we’ll behead the Alawites. I ask God to help me cut their heads off. This truck is for the first revenge operation and then there will be two more operations.

TIME CODE: 00: 02:00 _ 00:04:00

Conversation between soldier and diver:

- Hello.

- Hello.

- May I see your ID?

- Here you are.

- Thank you. I hope you do well.

- Thank you.

- May God protect you!

Watch out for those cars, Osama. Stop them.

Narration:

This piece of Syrian soil is part of what the Western diplomacy calls Syrian liberated areas…

This signs says: The islamic state of iraq and the Levant congratulate all Muslims on the Eid al Adha…

It is clear who is in charge of this Syrian liberated area…

The Islamic State of Iraq and Levant is a franchise of Al Qaeda..once led by Abu Musab al zarqawi...today its leader is Abu Bakr al Baghdadi…one of the most wanted man on earth…

Fighters under his leadership are in control of cities and routes in Syrian land , receiving weapons and money to fight against syrian governmnet..

A bus is stopped at the same checkpoint…there are only civilians inside

-We never get on buses with guns to avoid any danger that can threat the safety of children.

Narration:

Before going inside the bus this fighter swears that they never go inside a bus carrying civilians with weapons

TIEM CODE: 00:04:00 _00:06:00

Narration:

In every war there is a city, a bridge or a road that each side sees as crucial to win or at least avoid defeat

This is one of those roads linking the syrian city of Raqqa near the border with Iraq to Turkey…

-Oh you are not Filming, are you?

Narration:

Passengers dont want to be filmed…the fighters say we should film…

They are looking for suspects…this is a kind of russian roullette for these civilians

Get stopped at the wrong checkpoint by the wrong armed group, say the wrong thing or do a wrong move can be the end… and say the wrong thing, and you might get grabbed. here is ISIL who dictates the law

One the passengers seems nervous. The reason seems to be because his identity card passed its expired date and in the middle of a war no way of getting a new one...a small detail that can cost his life.

He doesnt want to be filmed...

Hundreds of syrian civilians have been executed, kidnapped and abused in the checkpoints around Syria just because their documents were not in order

In this car back window we can see a black Tawhid flag — the kind made most famous by Al Qaeda

A supporter or just a way to keep safe and alive in this piece of syrian land…we dont know but is clear that the driver is allowed to go without even showing its documents

This is what happens when strangers with cameras are present…

TIME CODE: 00:06:00 _ 00:08:00

Narration:

what we are going to see is what happens when the camera belongs to Islamic State of Iraq and Levant…Or the ISIL

The story starts when some truck drivers are stopped by ISIL at a check point in a syrian road

ISIL Members:

Pull over.

Your ID card.

- Why didn't you stop there? You're a Shiah, aren’t you?

- We're Sunnis from Homs.

- Both of you?

- Yes.

- Are You Syrian?

- Yes.

- Are you Sunnis?

- May Allah lead you to victory.

- Are You Sunni?

- Yes.

-Are you Sunni?

-Yes.

- Are you sure?

- Yes.

- We just want to live. We're here to earn a living.

TIME CODE: 00:08:00 _00:10:00

Member of ISIL:

How can I know that you're Sunnis?

- We swear to Allah and his Prophet.

-What have the Alawites brought dishonor on the Muslims in Syria?

- By Allah, I don't know. We have nothing to do with them.

- They're raping women and killing Muslims.

- We've never been so close to the army or to the Alawites.

- Based on your talk, you're polytheists. Allah the Great says, “Fight against all polytheists as they fight against you.”

Narration:

we are in liberated territory, here there is no syrian army ...no way out, we should accept the presence of armed men with us...kidnappings and lootin is the law around here, especially if you are a journalist carrying a camera with you….

our bodyguards are members of the so called freedom fighters, they impose their presence but we should pay to have them with us ...this is what life looks like in the so called Syrian liberated areas

TIME CODE: 00:10:00 _ 00:12:00

ISIL member:

-This is Al-Hamra and this is where we should capture.

-This would allow us access to Al-Khursan, an Alawite village next to Al-Hamra.

-Here is Al-Khursan, an Alwite village with a military base at the back.

- Is it clear where the military base is?

- It’s here.

- The military base no. 66?

- Correct!

- Here's Duma. We are going to take positions here and cut off the access to other Alawite villages such as Kasr Al-Zugbah. This way, any Alwaite village will receive supplies or reinforcements. Taking these positions, the brothers will cut off the access to all villages. In every village, there is a tank or two. This is a simple operation, with God's help. Here we can find tanks, machine guns but they are far from each other and poorly organized.

It takes them at least one day to regroup their forces if they want to send reinforcements. The operation will be easy on the first day. The next day will be difficult but we can count on heavy weapons like 130machine guns and 122 anti-tank missiles. What’s more, our brothers have mines and large-caliber machine guns. In short, we will use everything we have to prevent the military base from receiving reinforcements from the neighboring Alawite villages.

Narration:

It is clear that here weapons and money are not a problem…

We want to know who are the fighters behind the syrian frontlines against Bashar al assad’s government

TIME CODE: 00:12:00 _ 00:14:00

-God is the greatest.

- Hello, where are you going?

- We are going to Jan Al-Asal, God willing.

- God willing, we’ll win. God willing, we’ll do away with the Alawites. This is the first operation by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and we hope to emerge victorious.

We aim to put Sharia into effect and kill the infidels, with God's help.

Narration:

What kind of thoughs and goals are moving them, bringing them from all over the world to the syrian war fields…

They couldnt be more clear…

-I ask God to motivate and protect us to defeat those who disbelieve God. I ask God to help us. We are here just to raise the flag of Allah. We are here just to support and help the oppressed. I ask God to support us in this regard. My God support you all. God is the greatest.

- The enemies if Allah and his Prophet Mohammad will not have any place in our land .

In the Islamic State, they will have no nation or place .

Narration:

After months of contacts and attempts we finally got the man we were looking for…the meeting was in this abandoned buidilng

We should never reveal his identity and know that any suspect movement will be paid with life

The man we are going to meet is in its 20’s …he was a member of the Islamic State Of Iraq And The Levant…today he is fighting with Al Nusra front…

TIME CODE : 00:14:00 _ 00:16:00

Abu Al Hefz Sury, Al Nusra fighter:

-Hello.

- Hello.

- Can I have your name?

- Abu Al-Hefz Sury.

- What are you fighting for?

- For the sake of God.

I used to fight with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

- Do you mean you are not with them anymore?

- Yes.

- Why did you leave the ISIL?

- Because they fight against the Free Syrian Army. The ISIL considers the FSA secular and therefore it’s more important to fight against it that against the regime.

Armed man :

We’ve come to cut off their heads and we’ll offer God the blood of those infidels. Dear friends, let me tell you that by killing one of those infidels you will free yourself from Hell because the Prophet said that an infidel and his murderer would not be reunited in Hell.

Narration:

Beyond the frontline, beyond everything that is said in media and by the diplomats and politicians is clear that The syrian war has now has a second front… the diffrenet armed groups are also fighting each other…

Abu Al Hefz Sury:

- Why did you join the ISIL? What did you expect it?

- I thought that it wanted to establish an Islamic Caliphate but I realized that I was totally wrong. It fights against the Free Syrian Army because it considers the FSA seculars. The ISIL is against the democratic values of the FSA. The ISIL thinks that the FSA doesn’t believe in Sharia. That's why the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant says that the Free Syrian Army is secular.

TIME CODE : 00:16:00 _ 00:18:00

Narration:

Many of the ISIL members present in this meeting are wanted in several countries for terrorism, bombing attacks, kidnappings…rewardes of several thousand dollars are offered for them dead or alive…

These pictures were taken durinng a meeting between the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and several syrian tribal leaders in Deir Ez-Zor near the border with Iraq…

They are in Syria and make part of the so called freedom fighters that receive outside support in money and weapons

Member of ISIL:

Many of you dear brothers seem to be like Moses’ people who abandoned him and left him to his fate while they themselves rested. No, dear brothers, this is not acceptable.

We’re supporting foreign and domestic fighters telling them that we are with them.

We should tell them to fight with our support.

Our friends, the foreigner fighters have come from neighboring countries to fight for us. So how should we behave?!

Abu Al Hefz Sury:

The infidel receives two warnings before being executed. The killer is executed immediately.

Member of ISIL:

This is a message from the ISIL for all those who think the ISIL won’t attack the Alawite regime.

TIME CODE: 00:18:00 _ 00:20:00

Member of ISIL :

Here we have a sergeant from Bashar's regime and I swear to God that we will fight the regime and those who have betrayed us. We act like a sharp sword against anyone who attacks our religion.

I swear to you that they will be slaughtered. We are present in the Levant and Iraq and we swear to God that the ISIL continue its fighting in all fronts, begging God to give us strength to cut off your heads as soon as possible. Praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds.

Abu Al Hefz Sury:

- The ISIL wants to draw up borders.

- Do you mean the borders of the Islamic Levant?

- Yes.

- How long have you been fighting with the ISIL?

- Four months.

Member of ISIL:

You ought to defend the combatants if you are Muslims.

You ought to defend and prevent people from speaking ill of them. They are human beings and occasionally thieves, evil-doers or even people paid by the Syrian regime join them. We must be aware.

Bombs cannot differentiate between us. We are from tribes and we should be generous.

Abu Al Hefz Sury:

- For them, everybody is an infidel. If you are not a member of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant you are an infidel. This forced me to move away from them. I remember when I was fighting with ISIL once there was clashes between the FSA and the ISIL. A member of the FSA and a member of the ISIL refused to fight each other. The Islamic state of Iraq and the Levant killed both of them .

TIME CODE : 00:20:00 _ 00:22:00

Abu Al Hefz Sury:

They were killed ?

-yes, one from the Army and one from the state.

Narration:

The men you see sitting around this tent are well educated, they express themselves in classic Arabic, they have studied theology and memorized the Quran...and they know exactly how to handle people

They came with a mission...develop closer links and get the support of deir zor tribes

The radical salafism that scares so much the west and many arab countries, the same radical salafism that is the ideological basis of al Qaeda is the main source of finantiation for this groups acting in syria…

One of the members in meeting:

I hope it’s a new step toward a future full of Prosperity for this country. Thanks and I hope God will grant you victory , we are with you and you with us . we will fight against those who you fight and will not with whoever you won’t.

-God willing! God bless You !

Narration:

The following is the top-secret memo from the Saudí Arabia Ministry of interior :

His Excellency General Suood Al-Thnayyan, may Allah protect him

Time CODE: 00:22:35 _ 00:24:00

Member of a meeting:

-I’d like to ask you a question.

-First let me say hello.

-Hello .have a good evening .

- I have a question I already know the answer but I’d like to clarify the matter for other people .

Narration:

Back in the meeting bewteen the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant a local tribal leader approaches a member of ISIL and tries to ask some questions…

Member of a meeting:

- Now , let the Sheikh be finished and he will answer your question.

- Please, speak a bit louder.

-Some people say that you are al-Qaeda and that for you everybody is an infidel. We are used to hearing that .

-Good! They say that you consider both the locals and the Free Syrian Army Infidels. They also say that you are terrorizing the civilians, I swear to God.

-You‘d better calm down.

Narration:

The ISIL member just ignores him while some tribal leaders advise the man to be quiet…

Member of ISIL:

- I swear allegiance to the commander of the believers …

- I swear allegiance to the commander of the believers …

- Abu Bakr Al-Quraishy …

- Abu Bakr Al-Quraishy …

- To be faithful and obedient …

- And to fight to defend it ...

- And to fight to defend it …

- And Allah is a witness to what I say.

- And Allah is a witness to what I say.

I hope God will accept our pact.

Narration:

Syrian tribal leaders of Deir Ez-Zor swearing an oath of allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi…

A clear victory over Al Nusra front that fight against Islamic Satte of Iraq for the control of this region

TIME CODE: 00:24:03 _00:26:00

Abu Al Hefz Sury:

- A soldier in the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant has to declare his complete obedience to the organization and do whatever the commander of the Islamic State says. The commander’s order must be obeyed even if the order is to kill someone.

- Even to kill your own brothers?

- Yes.

- What kind of deal is this?

- It is an oath to fight.

- An oath to fight against anyone?!

- Yes.

- Forever?

- Forever.

Narration:

Why the support of these tribes is so important? There are 2 main reasons:

Deir Ez-Zor lies in an important weapons and fighters supply route from Iraq and…contains the largest energy reserves in Syria…

Ibrahim Awwad Ibrahim Ali al-Badri generally known as Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is the leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

It is said he is too radical even for al-Qaeda. He is the target of one of the biggest manhunts the Middle East has ever seen.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi – known as the Ghost – orders public beheadings, bombing attacks and is America’s second most wanted man, with a $10 million reward for information leading to his capture or death.

TIME CODE: 00:26:00 _ 00:28:00

Narration:

Only al-Zawahiri, chief of the global al-Qaeda organization, merits a larger reward at $25 million…

An armed man, Former member of ISIL :

The main goal of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant is to fight against the Free Syrian Army.

For them, everybody who is not with them is an infidel. For example, if someone defends the existence of a parliament he is a heretic. If you believe in democracy you are again an infidel.

Narration:

Once our interviewee feels we are not a threat offers himself to talk to the camera without his face covered…he says he feels guilty for what he did on the behalf of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and decides to show who he is…we cannot accept his offer becuase we know that showing his face he will be signing his death sentence

An armed man, Former member of ISIL :

I took an oath of complete loyalty and obedience to the ISIL but when I joined them I found the situation totally different. When I saw them fighting against the FSA I decided to break my oath.

- Was it easy?

- No, it was not easy and I had to see the Sheikh and tell him that I wanted to break my oath. He asked me why and I told him that I didn’t want to fight against the Free Syrian Army. I also told him that for the ISIL everybody was an infidel so I wanted to leave the organization.

- What did he answer?

- He said that it was up to me to stay or leave.

- Did he accept your explanation? Or did he try to give you some answers?

- He accepted my explanation.

TIME CODE: 0028:00 _ 00:30:00

An armed man, former member of ISIL :

- Is he Syrian or Arab?

- He is Arab.

- Where is he from?

- From Saudi Arabia.

- Were there many Arab fighters with them?

- Yes.

- Do you know how many they are?

- They are many.

- Would you be more exact? How many are Syrian?

- About 15% of them are Syrian.

Member of ISIL:

Our brothers have come from Algeria, Jordan and Afghanistan to defend our honor.

That’s while some of you just rest and drink coffee. No, it’s not acceptable. No, it’s not acceptable. We must be united. I ask the soldiers to join us and use their weapons. They will have all our support.

Narration:

The Syrian Jihad financed and supported by outside money gave al Qaeda the chance to get back on track, the chance to to regroup, train and plan operations and creating a new generation of jihadists…

Organizations like the ISIL prepared its new fighters since early ages…they are brainwashed through videos like this one….

Former member of Jihad organization:

Thank God, we got the call to join the jihad. We left our land to join the jihad.

I sincerely hope to enter Paradise and be the first to get it, with the help of God.

We want to take a short-cut to Paradise. We want to see the face of God and it is our duty to leave behind worldly matters and attend the meeting with God. We want to be among the winners.

TIME CODE : 00:30:00 _ 00:32:00

Narration:

The roots of ISIL go back to 2006, when what is known as the Islamic State of Iraq was established, a unión of different armed groups, among them al-Qaeda in Mesopotamia, led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi…

On October 13th 2006 three months after A—Zarqawi was killed the establishment of the Islamic State of Iraq or the ISI was announced Abu-Abdullah Al-rashid al-Baghdadai became ISIL figured Amir..

The real power residing with the Egyptian Abu-Ayoub al Masri..

AL-Baghdadi and AL-Masri were both killed in Iraqi operation in 2010. The next leader of the ISIL was Abu Bakr aL-Baghdadi… the current leader of the ISIL

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi played a key role in establishing Jabhat al-Nusra in Syria But he considered Abu Mohammed al-Golani, Nusra’s leader, to be his subordinate with a duty to obey him.

So Baghdadi announced the dissolution of Jabhat al-Nusra and the integration of its members into ISI, with the new organization being called the Islamic State in Iraq and al-Sham. Other vise better known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, the ISIL.

Some estimates suggest that about 65% of the al-Nusra elements quickly declared their allegiance to ISIL. Most of those were non-Syrian jihadists.

TIME CODE: 00:32:00 _ 00:34:00

Member of Jihadist:

we were ordered to emigrate and carry with us our brothers, family and relatives to fight for God. Thank God for this great gift. God commands us to fight using our money and our lives. Thank God for providing us with these weapons and for giving us the opportunity to put into practice His laws. We have a message for our young Arab brothers.God bless you!

An armed man , former member of ISIL:

- Do the fighters marry?

- Yes.

- With the Syrian women?

- Yes.

- Can you explain?

- They made people believe that they were not radical and that they were only spreading the words of God so people began to marry their daughters to the foreign fighters.

- Have you seen this in person?

- Yes.

Memebr of ISIL:

My dear brothers! A tribal leader from a nearby village asked me, “Can the foreigners run this country?” He asked this in front of many people. I replied, “ According to the commander of the believers, Abu Bakr Al-Quraishy Al-Hussaini the first day after the establishment of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant only the citizens of this country will govern this country. The commander of the believers has ordered us to give preference to the locals to rule the country and a foreigner will be chosen as a ruler only if there isn’t any qualified local to rule. That's what we have been ordered and what we are doing so don’t worry, the country will be governed by locals who are prepared to swear an oath of obedience to God.

TIME CODE : 00:34:15 _ 00:36:00

Narration:

ISIL propaganda machine is powerfull and borderless Syria's has been the most socially mediated civil conflict in history and ISIL knows how to use the social media networks to recruit fighters

Conversation of a man with Ahmed ( little child) :

- Hello.

- How are you?

- Fine, thank God.

- Where are you from?

- From Raqqa.

-From Raqqa?!

- Yes, Raqqa.

- What is your name?

- Ahmed.

- Did you know “I seek protection from God against the Devil” by hear?

- Yes.

- And “In the name of God, the most Compassionate, the most Merciful'' by heart?

- Yes.

- And Surat An-Naziat?

- In the name of God, the most Compassionate, the most Merciful; by the winds that scatter broadcast; and those that lift and bear away heavy weights …

Narration:

The agenda of ISIL goes beyong the present war, the goal is the establishment of a Caliphate run by ISIL

It not only shows that they have experience but also that they are powerful or they have money , a lot of money

-Now I’m going to ask some questions from Abu Mansour and he will answer.

Abu Mansour cannot speak in Arabic fluently so I'll ask him in English and translate his answer into Arabic.

Abu Mansour:

- Hello, Abu Mansour.

- Hello.

TIME CODE : 00:36:00 _ 00:38:00

A man ( as a show man ):

- We are surprised that people from Finland come here. Finland is known as a democratic country par excellence. I’m going to ask Abu Mansour why he’s come to the Levant.

Abu Mansour :

-In the name of God, the most Compassionate, the most Merciful. Hello everybody.

He realized that Muslims were being killed in Chechen, Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, Somalia and especially in this country where Bashar has been killing a large number of Muslims. So he has decided to come here.

Show man:

I just asked him why he had came here leaving his family behind.

Abu Mansour :

He says that he has come from his country to help establish the Caliphate in the Levant because the Caliphate will bring justice to all people including Muslims, Jews and Christians because there's nothing more just than sharia.

Show man :

According to Abu Mansour, those who want to take the road to Hell should choose democracy and those who want Paradise should be patient and choose the Caliphate.

Abu Mansour :

-He says, “I ask you to help us establish the Caliphate and correct us if we are mistaken.”

TIME CODE : 00:38:00 _00:40:00

Show man:

We feel ashamed when we see people come from Japan, Finland, America, Australia and Argentina, from all over the world to proclaim the victory of our religion while here there are some who do not want religion but prefer secularism. Abu Mansour can get those who want to be secular a visa for Finland.

Narration:

We ask ourselves why the population of this village receive the Islamic State of Iraq militants with such joy….This is the answer…

Al- Nusra front and ISIL run all the basic services in rebel-held areas they have full power over the food distribution chain… they use the provision of aid to citizens to gain popular support

The group goes beyond provision of food to running even schools for children.

Some people are driven by economic difficulties and hardship to side with Al nusra and ISIL because they cover the shortages and provide the people with flour, bread, food, fuel and gas

TIME CODE : 00:40:00 _ 00:42:00

Narration:

Syria in Al Qaeda new breathing room.

Here we can find the newest and most dangerous version of a renewed Al Qaeda…with a civilian population thirsty of the most basic necessities like food and medicines they try to win hearts and minds fulfilling these necessities…

Poor man :

May God protect you from the harm of the wicked! May God make you victorious! -- My God protect you, grandfather!

Narration:

But they will later discover that there is a price for all these services, and this is when the problem starts

Local people:

- The truth is that we should not kill anyone but the Islamic State of Iraq should be annihilated.

- This is the ISIL that kill people. This is what the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant does.

Narration:

The perfect ground allied to a perfect strategy with one goal: setting down the roots for the creation of a radical salafist caliphate in Syria

In these areas ISIL even introduced a formal rationing sysrtem of basic necessities and gainned the monopoly of the bread production

Worker in bakery:

- How many people do receive bread from these bakeries?

- We give bread to the most people in the liberated areas in Aleppo, that is 75% of the people. We supervise the whole process from providing flour to giving bread to the people. We even have a system in which citizens can buy bread by showing their ID cards.

TIME CODE : 00:42:04 _ 00:44:00

A driver:

Now we're going to see a bakery that belongs to the Al-Nusra Front. It provides citizens with bread at the lowest price. It’s a bit out of town because Bashar’s regime bombs humanitarian aid and bread stations. You can see that in the media.

- Why are you here? What are you doing here?

-This is a bakery supported by the Al-Nusra Front. It provides people with bread at a very low price.

The main public bakeries are closed. The brothers are resting now.

- Does the Al-Nusra Front also receive bread from here?

- Yes, of course. The bakery is supported by the Al-Nusra Front and at the same time supplies the fighters and people with bread. At special stations, people can buy bread cheap.

- Have you built the bakery yourselves or are you just using it?

- It’s been built with the help of humanitarian aid organization. We run the bakery and provide flour and whatever needed for baking bread.

TIME CODE: 00:44:05 _ 00:46:00

Narration:

After asking insistently about who built this bakery and who paid for it we received an unexpected answer: this bakery was built with funds that came from the humanitarian assistance given to the Syrian people

But it is al Nusra, the syrian branch of al Qaeda, who runs the business …

This photo makes things even more clear…It shows Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant Commander Muhajireen Kavkaz wa Sham along with other rebels dawning battle-gear and an RPG, inside a USAID tent.

Deir Ez-Zor is witnessing a sharp tribal split against the backdrop of the conflict between Jabhat al-Nusra and ISIL, and there is a serious possibility of a devastating tribal war...

Three quarters of the around 22 million Syrians are Sunni Muslims. Alawites and Christians each represent 10 percent of the population. On top of that, several hundred thousand Druze, Shiites and Yazidi also live in the country.

The various religious communities in Syria lived together peacefully for decades. But the ongoing conflict in the country is tearing ever deeper divides between the faiths.

ISIL is waging a campaign to indoctrinate civilians in a fundamentalist interpretation of Islam, the first step in its ambition to build an Islamic caliphate.

The first step in its ambition to build an Islamic caliphate.…there are no limits and everybody is a target…

TIME CODE: 00:46:00 _ 00:48:00

Narration:

The followigng video is a good example of how ISIL operates…this operation took place in Iraq…ISIL fighters in Iraqi army uniforms come to a house…the familly is convinced these men are soldiers of the Iraqi army…

Member of ISIL & An army officer :

- Put your head against the wall. Against the wall. Do not move your head.

- My guns are out there.

- Greeting! I am from the Islamic Awakening.

- You can see my ID card.

- What do you mean?

- You can check my ID card.

- What is your name?

- Saeed Ali Sulaiman.

- Sir, here we have arrested an army officer.

He has ordered the prisoners to be transferred.

- Do you want to know who orders me directly?

- Who?

- Who is he?

- Muqadam Al-Muthanna. Abdul Qader Al-Muthanna.

- Where is he now?

- Have you just sent some fighters to the front?

- To be honest, the boys are ready to go there. We have received a call for reinforcements because several have been killed and wounded. Our guys have gone to the front to take their places.

- Which groups are fighting on your side?

- The al-Tawhid Brigade is fighting hand in hand with the Al-Nusra Front, the Free Men of the Levant and some other groups.

- Do you have any strong ties with the Al-Nusra Front?

- Contrary to what is said in the media we have a very good relationship with the Al-Nusra Front and other Islamist or secular groups. We are all Muslims and names are not important when we are fighting and sometimes killed in the same front by a common enemy.

- Do you have any plan for joint operations?

- Yes, we have a joint operation room and we are getting new victories, day after day. After the last union between several groups you will hear good news that will glad Muslims worldwide.

A man with covered face :

Dear brothers of the al-Tawhid Brigade, I’m going to ask you some questions, now that God has put you on the right path and you have repented. Brother, what did you think of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant before being captured?

- I did not think well of it.

- Can you explain more?

- I had heard that members of the ISIL did not respect the word of God and killed Muslims and shed blood. The media spoke badly of the ISIL to an extent that we took up arms against it.

- As a prisoner of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, did you think we were like what the media said?

- Not at all.

- How is your experience with the ISIL?

- The members of the ISIL didn’t insult or beat us. We were treated well and unlike what the press claim they are not bad. The ISIL brothers are on the right path and they will win, God willingly.

- God bless you! Dear brother, I think you held the same opinion about the ISIL before being captured, didn’t you? How did you find the ISIL?

- I found the ISIL good people.

- How did you sleep or what did you eat as a prisoner of the ISIL?

- I slept like I was at house and I didn’t feel I was a prisoner. I considered myself as one of you.

- How was the food?

- The food was good. We ate the same food as you ate. We felt at home all the time.

I think one of our experts talked to you yesterday, didn’t he?

- Yes, he did.

- Today, we will see a new video. Do you want to see it, anyway?

- We’ve heard rumors about the negotiations with the Syrian Islamic Front. Is it true and how are the negotiations going on?

An interviewee in BBC news channel:

- Well, there are some negotiations with the Islamic Front in order to find common ground. The fact is that they have raised questions very similar to yours. I think the Americans do not have a magic formula to solve the disunity between different groups of the Syrian opposition.

- Let me show you something more dangerous. It is a new one. Look. Please listen to the Western spokesman. For him, Muslims are their allies. For you, the soldiers of the al-Tawhid Brigade, this video is shocking. Let’s listen, and you will find out.

Western spokesman :

We see disunity between different Islamic groups in Syria; groups like the Free Men of the Levant and the Al-Nusra Front and others, even between those like the al-Tawhid Brigade that are US allies.

We are asked to protect the identity of the commanders present in the room

There is a detail that calls our attention…in the blanket where fighetrrs and its commanders are sitting we can see the Saudi Arabia flag…

-Dear friends, we are preparing for an assault. We do not know against whom we will fight because the way of fighting has changed in Syria. We knew who we were fighting against before but now the FSA has changed. The way we operate is due to changes because everyone is fighting on the battlefield from Hezbollah to the Iranians and the Russians to other foreigners. Everyone is fighting here and things have changed. Today, we will able to free another area with the help of God. No one knows the location except the commandant. Half an hour before the assault we will tell you where the location is. Of course we have a great deal of footage about the location and we have pinpointed it via Google Earth. We have also been monitoring the area for three days. We’ll be on the alert in the vicinity of the area and prepare ourselves for the assault. We have your names completely but we want to know who wants to be in the front line and who wants to be behind the front line to support those who mount the assault. If your brothers get injured or killed you should take them away and take their places.

TIME CODE: 01:02:00 _ 01:04:00

Can you give me the names? Abu Muthanna, bring me the list. Once you give me the names I will submit it to the commander for final approval. Tonight we go out again to keep the area under surveillance. All of you have previous experience in assault operations. It is not your first time. We all have experience and you know how to use a weapon. Am I right?

- Yes, you are.

- Will the assault be by day or night?

- This time the assault will be by day because the army remains awake at night and therefore must sleep in the morning. Thus our experience tells us that we must storm during the day, with a heavy artillery barrage.

- Can an absent person join us later?

- Well, let’s call the roll to see who will be in the operation.

The Prophet used to wear two suits of armor instead of one. Using this vest does not mean that you are weak. The Prophet was chosen by Allah but he would wear two suits of armor instead of one during war. For God, the life of a Muslim is precious and therefore you must not lose your lives absurdly. We have to trust in God and at the same time be prepared and properly protected. That’s why the Al-Nusra Front prepares its fighters in the best possible way. Your rifles must be in good condition; your weapons must be appropriate; you must be protected with a helmet, and ready for anything because this is what Islam teaches us. With the Al-Nusra Front, all our young people are well-prepared and this vest you see here saved the life of a young man in the battle of Aleppo. He had been shot by a machine gun at a distance of about 300 meters. So you must put on your vests. Putting your vests on does not mean that you are weak. On the contrary, it shows your courage, the courage of those who really believe in God.

There they receive physical training and learn how to use weapons. Training courses usually last from 25 days to a month. I hope to be one of the favorites of God's servants. Our ideology is Salafism and when we are unfairly treated we react by jihad. The best moments of my life were when I arrived in the Levant. Here I had the happiest moments of my life. My training started from the first minute I came here, along with other brothers. We received physical training, learned how to give first aid and carry the injured. We also learned hand fighting, combat tactics and shooting using different kinds of weapons. The ideology of Al-Qaeda or the Al-Nusra Front has long been known. -Is that clear?

-If we have any suggestions or ideas while the enemy is approaching, let your brothers know it too. So it’s clear what to do when you see the enemy: the first thing is to hide yourself and then fall back as quickly as possible. As we move forwards and we must keep a distance of at least 10 meters from each other, simply observing the enemy. The enemy should not see us from his position. We should be completely hidden. AL-Nusra Fighter :

Duck your head. Duck your head. Allah is greatest.

Narration:

Its military capabilities and quality of command exceed those of the Free Syrian Army and other rebel groups.

Abu Mahmoud ,leader of AL –Nusra front:

The Al-Nusra Front respects those who have come from abroad to fight in Syria. We know that they have left their countries to defend the honor of people in Homs and Aleppo, and the honor of all Muslims. Therefore we should respect the foreigners more than the locals. We love and respect them as if they are part of us.

-To the right.

-Fire!

-We lie in wait for the enemy. We can wait one, two or three days.

-Move on. Be ready.

-I shoot only because God has ordered me to do that and He is the one who guides me.

Narration:

After being prepared for the fight in Nusra war fields the new fighters are ready to take their missions…Almost each operation is recorded and shared in internet social media networks and forms… no conflict ever has been covered this way.

In fact Syria is the first social media war…

Amateur videographers — anyone with a smartphone, Internet access and an eagerness to get a message out to the world — have driven the world’s outlook on the war through YouTube, Twitter and other social media.

A study of more than 1.7 million tweets on the Syrian conflict shows that hostilities are not between two sides, but rather between many factions - each with their own agenda and ideals.

TIME CODE: 01:40:00 _ 01:42:00

Narration:

Rebel groups have dedicated staff managing social media accounts. They’re promoting their brands around the world, raising funds, influencing the international debate and recruiting new fighters from all over the world, a generation that grow up with social media, they see no difference between the online and offline world, so they do what they feel. They can post tweets saying about how they are missing home or annoucing that “I just got my first kill”…

Abu Mahmoud , Leader of AL –Nusra Front:

As for the relationship between the Al-Nusra Front and other armed groups I have to say that we cooperate with other factions, defending the word of God together. We support anyone who supports the establishment of sharia. We do not want to become a government. The word of God should govern and it can be done through a Muslim coalition but the most important thing is the establishment of sharia in these lands, because they haven’t been ruled by Muslims for more than 200 years. We are with everyone who wants to establish sharia. We do not want to govern ourselves.

TIME CODE: 01:42:00 _ 01:44:00

AL – Nusra fighter:

The Syrian people are good people. When they heard that their brothers came to protect them they accepted the idea. They even started to attend the Sharia Courts to settle their problems. Because the Al-Nusra Front is sincerely generous people love them very much.

- Can you give me some examples of the Al-Nusra Front helping the people?

The most important thing is to solve their problems. The Front helps them solve their problems. We are promoting brotherhood among the people. The Al-Nusra Front solves the problems of the people easily. That’s why they love it.

- Why have you come to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant Court?

Because we’ve heard that they have quick and fair trials and the judges pass sentences according to sharia.

- What do you think of those who say the ISIL does not act according to sharia and its courts do not work properly?

I swear to God they’re lying.

- Why did you come to an ISIL court?

Because I want a judgment based on the word of God.

- Would you have been treated fairly if you had gone to one of those secular courts?

We collaborate with many groups especially with the Islamic groups. We do not cooperate with anyone else.

TIME CODE: 01:44:00_01:46:00

-Oh dear brothers from the Caucasus, Iraq, Bosnia, Chechnya, Yemen, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and others who have come to the Levant to fight for the sake of Allah.

Under the sound of these cannons, we fight for the sake of Allah.

We came here for this. We didn't come here to fight each other. My brothers in the ISIL, I swear to God our most honorable wish is to meet Allah. We move forward without retreating. However, we do not want meet Allah with our hands stained with the blood of a Muslim. Now, the martyrdom-seeker has left us.In minutes, the Islamic nation shall hear his voice … … while pounding the Shiahs’ prisons. But when the explosives kill Muslims what shall we tell our Lord?I ask you my honest brother whoa are fighting for the ISIL to join your brethren in the Al-Nusra Front, the Free Men of the Levant, the Army of Fighters or whoever you want. However, do not continue fighting against Muslims. We testify on your behalf in front of Allah. I ask Omar Al-Shishani and other brothers in the ISIL to swear to God not to let the jihad come to an end because of the infighting.

Stop the infighting. Do not call us apostates and thieves. We’re fighting the regime.

We shall end this by shouting God is greatest in Alleppo's central prison and embracing our brethren.

-We’ve been in Syria for more than two years. In these two years there has no place for fear. We had the opportunity to be part of different groups, including the Al-Nusra Front with whom we could have joined forces but we didn’t join them. There was a time when we were about to join the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant but negotiations never reached an end. There were people who thought differently and they did not have that clear; some wanted to join while others didn’t. Therefore, no decisions were made. Many people told us many different things. The result was that we could not make a decision.

-I came from Saudi Arabia to the Levant to protect the weak and joined the ISIL. I have seen many things against the will of God. The ISIL brand everyone as infidels.

TIME CODE: 01:46:00 _ 01:48:00

-For example, in Al-Hasaka the ISIL counselors used to tell us that the locals of Al-Hasaka were infidels. They even said that all the Syrians were infidels in origin. They also say that the Free Syrian Army and the Free Men of the Levant are traitors and that members of the Al-Nusra were all sinners.

Abu Mahmoud:

This equipment we've got … well, most of this equipment we snatched from the army of the sinners, that is the army of the Alawites.

Help him put on this.

- Sheikh, do you receive funds?

- We earn a livelihood with fighting in God's name.

- Do you not receive any funds or support?

- The Sunnis help us. Even the women cook for us and help us as if we are one of them.

- Do not you receive any funds from abroad?

- No, we do not receive any funds from abroad. All we have come from the locals, whether it is food, drinks or anything else.

Narration:

It Seems strange that these new and expensive equipment came from local people donations when almost all syria is struggling to survive without food or medecines

- let him adjust it himself!

TIME CODE: 01:48:00 _ 01:50:00

- May God protect you

May God protect you, heroes.

You are the heroes of the caliphate.

Narration:

We follow Abu Mahmoud, one of the al Nusra commanders in Idbli to the mosque…is Friday and the mosque is full…

-If the question is how we shall react I should say that jihad and terrorism are what can be prescribed for the infidels. If the question is what we shall do the answer is that we must use all means at our disposal to terrorize, humiliate and keep them scared with all means approved by God and sharia.

TIME CODE: 01:50:00 _01:52:00

-We must get away from us, our children and families the injustice, destruction and death. And God save Sheikh Abdullah Azzam and accept him as a martyr because he said, “ We are terrorists and terrorism is one of our precepts.”

Narration:

The speeches is the expected one…exception to the several references to Sheikh Hazam also know as the father of the Global Jihad who raised funds, recruited and organised the international Islamic volunteer effort of Afghan Arabs through the 1980s.

Sheikh Hazam was a teacher and mentor of Osama bin Laden and the one who persuaded bin Laden to come to Afghanistan and help the jihad. Together, they both established al-Qaeda.

-Let them know in the East and the West that we are terrorists and they should fear us. With this attitude we frighten the enemies of God and our enemies as well because terrorism is a precept of our religion. They want us to be like a slaughtered sheep. If the sheep complains about the pain of being beheaded they will say the sheep is rude. We follow the path of terrorism to keep injustice and murder away from our women and children. Dear fighters of the blessed lands of the Levant, the difference between us and our enemies is that we love death as they love life. We love to die in the name of God as they love to live because dying in the name of God is a way to get the eternal life where there is no pain or suffering.

TIME CODE: 01:52:00 _ 01:54:00

-Support our brothers as they are supporting you until the establishment of sharia in this graceful land. We should accept only the word of God in this graceful land and accept only the will of God in this land as well as the welfare of the believers and the humiliation of the infidels.

Narration:

The friday prays have finished…outside, in the walls of the mosque an annoucement from Al Nusra front is expecting the people of Idlib

It comes from the military commanders of Islamic state of Iraq and the levant and says that by the grace of Allah 4 fighters of ISIL that were kidnapped by the organization Ahfad al Rasul, Grandsons of the Prophet are now free

ISIL declares the area was cleaned from these “infidels”, as they call this third group acting in the area…

Beyond the frontline in towns and villages in rebel-held Syria Nusra front and Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant are creating Small Islamic Emirates ruled by terror.

No matter if these areas belong to Syria, the last word belongs to those who have the guns

ISIL is waging a campaign to indoctrinate civilians across northern Syria in a fundamentalist interpretation of Islam, the first step in its ambition to build an Islamic caliphate, quietly working to impose its ideology, using a sophisticated strategy to change the nature of Syrian society.

In those areas under al Nusra front and Islamic State of Iraq control Syrian law is no longer available for its citizens, the law of terror, was not the low of the land

-This is the punishment for those who don’t participate in Friday prayers. 25 lashes. Those found buying and selling things during Friday prayers will be punished by the Sharia Court with 25 lashed in public.

TIME CODE: 01:54:00 _ 01:56:00

Narration:

Women are told not to visit male doctors, speak to men outside the family, or even leave the house unaccompanied by a man

-This sentence carried out by the Muslims of the Free Men of the Levant is for those who refused to take part in Friday prayers.

Narration:

Music was banned….

The list is long applied also the other religious minorities in this territories…no matter if they are muslims or Christians

-The Free Men of the Levant carry out the punishment of those who refuse take part in Friday prayers.

Narration:

Islamic state or Iraq and Nusra front morality patrols are present everywhere to aplly their law.

What is clear when this journey is coming to an end is that in the so called liberated areas there is a second war front going on…a war between al Nusra front and Islamic state of Iraq and the Levant

TIME CODE : 01:56:00 _ 01:58:00

Narration:

Initially Nusra front operated as a branch of the Islamic State in Iraq,

To make its status official, in April 2012 Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, leader of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, announced the union of the two organizations, to be called "The Islamic State in Iraq and in Al-Sham Greater Syria

However, the union was not honored by the Al-Nusra Front and was annulled by Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in June 2013, who said the Front was the official Al-Qaeda branch in Syria

Al-Qaeda leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, has announced that the al-Nusra Front will carry the group’s banner in the Syria conflict, ordering the Iraqi faction of al-Qaeda to stop interfering in Syria.

Islamic state of Iraq and the Levant leader seems ready to defy the leader and al Nusra warns ISIL about the possibility of a war that can cross the border into Iraq…

Hundreds of foreign fighters have abandoned rebel ranks in northern Syria as frustration rises over bloody infighting there…they came to Syria to fight against Bashar al Assad regime and found themselves fighting between each other…

Seeds of new wars are growing in syrian warfields…Those who created the monster are not able to deal with it anymore….

Abu Mahmoud:

Dear brothers, they often seek intermediaries for us to let them make a suicide operation. They ask people to recommend them, and they get happy when they are chosen as if it were their wedding day. They decide to do that of their own accord.

TIME CODE: 01:58:00 _02:00:00

AL Nusra Fighter:

Dear brothers, the press lies and aims to discredit the fighters. Suicide operations are used by the Free Men of the Levant only in problematic areas. They are more carried in military areas or checkpoints. They are always done away from inhabited areas. They are for direct military targets; the enemy has boats, airplanes but they only things we have are our bodies and the power of God. So when the occasion arises, the fighters compete with each other to see who will perform the suicidal prayer.

- Any example?

- I remember a suicide operation was required in a particular place so the fighters competed for the operation, putting their names written on a paper inside a glass to choose one volunteer. It is a highly appreciated operation by the fighters. We're here to go to Paradise.

Patience and God accept it!

- What do you say to the army of Bashar?

- You will be defeated and religion will prevail, with or without you.

- Is it true you kill Muslims and shed their blood?

- It's a stupid question, to be honest. We have left our families to protect Muslims, not to kill them.

- Some say you do suicide operations because you have economic problems and because you want to keep a foot in the battlefield.

- We have found in jihad only peace and happiness and it’s a lie that we are escaping from reality.

We live in complete peace and we carry out suicide operations in order to destroy the enemies of Islam and to go to Paradise.

TIME CODE: 02:00:00 _02:02:00

-Of Course I miss my family and my country butmy family can not give me a place in Paradise….

I miss God more than my family.

-Will you go back to your country?

-No,I will stay here if God wills…

Narration:

It seems Syria has been put to one side and other issues have attracted the media…

Those who claim to be fighters for freedom have strong affiliations to known terrorist groups and splinter groups from the Al Qaeda network.

The really victims are the average Syrian, the elderly and the children who witnessed horrors no one should every see in their life times…

TIME CODE: 02:02:00 _ 02:04:00

Narration:

…but this is what people can do to one another, in a seemly endless war.

On March 2014 in the 3rd anniversary of the Syrian war no one could claim victory, paint a history…

The big new of this anniversary was the reading of the names of the people killed in Syria since March 2011.

The event was not concluded as it could take more than 75 hours to read all the names …

Those are names of people who ate ice cream and studied literature, who took pictures and dodged bullets and loved and all the world failed to see it…

A man from Syria’s Aleppo sent this crying letter to the outside world…

Not even in my wildest dreams did I imagine the violence that is sweeping across my country…

For many years Syria enjoyed peace and stability in the heart of the unstable Middle East.
