SOUNDBITE [Persian] Nahid Hosseini, Entrepreneur: “It goes down one by one, knot by knot and the rug moves upward. For us, it's such a feeling. It's like a mother's feeling towards her child. A child who is loved by their mother. It's far more than that, but I'm unable to explain it.

When I see a good rug, I just stand in front of it, and believe it or not if no one is around, I stare at it for hours and talk to it.

The piles that we use are from left to right, right to left, reverse piles, plain piles and loop piles. After hitting the weft, you move back here to do what? To check it out. You once check it out like this.

Our rugs are for export. Rugs that are for export, require a lot of stamina. We can't find enough weavers in a city to get professional work done and produce rugs for export. So if we set up a workshop in any city, our training would be different. It includes all aspects of weaving, professional weaving and project patterns.

It's right that one's mind should get engaged in weaving, but the woven pattern should be natural and look similar to what you see in the nature.

Our supplement knots on the rear side can be “U knots” or “additional knots”.”

SOUNDBITE [Persian] Hoda Azizi, Rug weaving Trainee: “It's now been about four days that we've travelled 1,000 kilometers and come here and we're receiving intensive training in the workshop so we'd hopefully be prepared to start a workshop in our city with the assistance of Mrs. Hosseini.”

SOUNDBITE [Persian] Nahid Hosseini, Entrepreneur: “The colors we use should either be a lighter shade or a darker shade. Now it depends on the pattern, the face that we have and how the face looks.”

SOUNDBITE [Persian] Hoda Azizi, Rug weaving Trainee: “The training she gives us is done wholeheartedly. I mean she practically teaches the weaver everything they should know and guides and instructs the trainee in the best possible way.”

SOUNDBITE [Persian] Nahid Hosseini, Entrepreneur: “It's honestly perfect for a person who has just started working. The job is just excellent. It's actually for export. A person who has just learned and is an entrepreneur has done the job this well!

Weaving has been customary in our family. I learned it during childhood. Rugs are a part of me. Just as no person can forget about themselves, I can't forget about rugs. I practically live with rugs.”

SOUNDBITE [Persian] Jalal Khosrowshahi, Dyeing Expert: “What we do here is a sort of dyeing. We have traditional dyeing as well as colors that are chemical and from plants. This piece of work includes 131 colors, eight of which are used in the face and the hands.”

CONVERSATION [Persian] Jalal Khosrowshahi & Nahid Hosseini: “-Hello

- Hello

- How are you?

- How are you doing? Okay?

- Are you fine?

- Welcome! Are you okay? Please come in.

- Sure

- Ma'am, we've dyed the yarn into colors on the the pattern you brought in and this is how it turned out. You can take a look at them. Check the colors out. The brown has turned out to be like this. If you take a look at these colors, you'll see the red has been used in here. The brown is used here. These are the flowers.

- Yeah, these flowers

- Yes ... And the blue is used around the fringe.

- Yes ... It's used around the fringe

- Yes, it's used there.

- It's perfect! Thanks a million.”

SOUNDBITE [Persian] Jalal Khosrowshahi, Dyeing Expert: “When Mrs. Hosseini comes here, she either brings her patterns along or we design them for her.

Then when it comes to dyeing, she chooses the yarn and what she picks is always among the best. Whether it be silk yarn or Merinus (Merino) yarn. She's very meticulous about the colors, the yarn and the patterns. Thank God, there's been no problem in the colors we've done for her until now. These are 37 different colors, which are now ready. We'll make sure you get the rest.”

SOUNDBITE [Persian] Nahid Hosseini, Entrepreneur: “Our workshops have been designed to train experts, they are professional. If there's no expert training, market integration will occur, and then there would be no export. A weaver would be unable to sell their product, it causes unemployment, they lose their determination and then there would be no weaving.”

SOUNDBITE [Persian] Hayedeh Shokri, Manager of Rug Weaving Workshop: “It's been about three months that Mrs. Hosseini put me in charge of this workshop. I also had a weaving job for about six months. I first came to this workshop because of her pleasant attitude.”

SOUNDBITE [Persian] Nahid Hosseini, Entrepreneur: “Whenever a woman learns how to weave, I feel as if I've saved them from drowning. In fact, I was a lifeguard. This is how I feel.”

SOUNDBITE [Persian] Maryam Karimi, Weaving Quality Controller: “We are willing to commute to this place because of Mrs. Hosseini’s perseverance. She’s a really nice woman.”

SOUNDBITE [Persian] Darab Gharehkhan, Mrs. Hosseini’s Husband, and Accountant: “If she decides to do something, she’s got an iron will. She would never give up until she gets the work done and proves that she’s successful in it. And I also support her and cooperate with her.”

SOUNDBITE [Persian] Nahid Hosseini, Entrepreneur: “He’s not interested in rugs, as he always says, but he totally and firmly supports me.”

SOUNDBITE [Persian] Fatemeh Bashiri, Supervisor of Rug Weaving Workshop: “Ever since childhood, I had the passion to become a weaver and I used to see her work. We started the workshop here and until now, things have been going pretty well.”

CONVERSATION [Persian] Nahid Hosseini: “-Hello

- How are you doing?

She’s a job creator and she came to us. We’ve woven these rugs as part of a partnership deal to create a number of jobs.”

CONVERSATION [Persian] Nahid Hosseini & Goli: “Hello Goli, more power to you! … How are you doing? How’s the job?

- Thank God, it’s good and I’m satisfied.”

SOUNDBITE [Persian] Fatemeh Bashiri, Supervisor of Rug Weaving Workshop: “Her determination amazed me. I would have really liked to be strong, firm and powerful like her, but I can’t. I’m still willing to become as serious as she is in this job. I’m very grateful to her for giving me very good advice. With God’s will and Mrs. Hosseini’s assistance, I hope we manage to become successful in our task.”

SOUNDBITE [Persian] Nahid Hosseini, Entrepreneur: “Currently, more than 7,000 trainees are directly and indirectly involved in this job. God willing, within four to five years, we hope to have at least, at least 100,000 people. I’ve been partially successful. Just partially!”
